Local families experience holiday cheer and lots of giving

Santa Claus came to town, well rather to the Salisbury Fire Station and he was a big hit with not just the kids but local law enforcement too.
Even Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis was excited.
"Oh I got to sit on Santa's knee and sit next to him and I told him what I wanted, so I'm anxious to see if he's going to come through for me."
Local families got a taste of holiday cheer a little early this year for the Evelyn Davis Christmas Giveaway. It was started by local community member Angela Davis and her sister Rhonda, in honor of their mother, who passed away last year.
"For a number of years she had a mission here in Salisbury which she fed many people with her pantry and she also had a homeless shelter in various locations throughout the city and with her passing, she's passed the mantle on to me and I'm delighted to do that and keep her memory alive," explains Angela.
So this year they decided to do a Christmas giveaway, giving away presents and food for financially strapped families in the area.
Davis tells 47 ABC, "We wanted to do something for the community and give back because we know in her memory that is what she would want us to do."
Although, it couldn't have been possible without the communities help. The Salisbury Fire Department and Wicomico County Sheriff's Office pitched in, as well as food donations from Perdue, Chipotle, and McDonalds.
"Its so great to see all these children here and see the children here with Santa Claus. We're here to give out gifts and were here to feed these children and have a good time and honestly fellowship here on during the Christmas season so its very special to be here tonight," says Sheriff Lewis.
And the event was a big hit, bigger than Davis and even Sheriff Lewis expected, with families packing into every corner of the fire station.
Despite the tight quarters these locals weren't complaining. It was clear, a packed house only enhanced the holiday spirit.
