Harrington teen who killed his father with a crossbow sentenced in Kent County

A Harrington teen who was pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in September was sentenced in Kent County on Wednesday morning.
According to Delaware Department of Justice officials, 18-year-old Seth Ramsey of Harrington, was sentenced to a total of six years of prison, followed by two years of probation.
In September, 18-year-old Seth Ramsey of Harrington, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony. These charges stem from an incident back in December 2014 when Ramsey reportedly skipped school. Because he knew that his father,Todd Ramsey, would be mad, he shot him with a crossbow.
Police say they were called to the Ramsey’s home on Park Brown Road in Harrington after two of Todd’s co-workers went to check on him because he hadn’t shown up to work in a couple of days. The responding officer searched the home and said that he saw part of a carpet missing in the hallway in front of a closed door which had blood on it, that’s where police reportedly found Todd’s body with a piece of carpet draped over him.
During Ramsey’s plea hearing, the state asked for a pre-sentencing investigation where Ramsey could serve a minimum of four years to a maximum of 50 years with both counts. The defense asked for Ramsey to serve at least five years, the state wanted 10 years. The state declined to comment on camera after the plea hearing, but Seth Ramsey’s attorney told 47 ABC off camera that this is a “fair resolution, and he’s taking responsibility.”
