Former Dover Charter School principal charged with federal program theft

The U.S. Attorney for the Distsrict of Delaware announced Thursday an indictment from the Grand Jury charging a former Dover charter school principal with federal program theft.

Noel Rodriguez, 55, was the principal of the Academy of Dover Charter School from 2011 to 2014. During that time he reportedly embezzled at least $5,000 in money or property from the school.

The U.S. Department of Education had given more than $10,000 to the charter school during those years.

He is charged with four counts of federal program theft, each one with the potential for up to ten years in prison and three years of supervised release, officials said.

Rodriguez's case is being investigated by the FBI, U.S. Department of Education and the Delaware Attorney General's Office. The Delaware Officer of Auditor of Accounts assisted with the case.
