Family, friends remember “Rehoboth’s Sweetheart”

There was a massive showing of support Wednesday afternoon remembering Cheryl Blackman, a Rehoboth Beach icon known for her larger than life personality died early December.

At the 'celebration of life', a friend of Blackman tells 47ABC she tried to help the community to her final days.

The tribute, held at the Epworth United Methodist Church, included a packed room with her family, friends and other loved ones.

Blackman was 53 years old when she passed away on December 7 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer; however, Wednesday's celebration was about everything that made her "Rehoboth's Sweetheart".

Projected in front of the room, included a slideshow of Blackman throughout the years and a 53 second video tribute titled "Cheryl's 53" to symbolize her 53 years.

Rehoboth Beach City Manager Sharon Lynn spoke of Blackman's smile, which she described as "bigger than the Atlantic".

"We all know good people and people who change our lives forever, and sometimes it's those people we only for a short or brief Amount of time that we feel like we've known forever and they make the greatest impact. I consider Cheryl to be one of those people in my life," explains Lynn.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for folks to consider a donation to the Tunnell Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice.
