Enjoy the holidays without temptation

With the holidays right around the corner, so are parties and reasons to celebrate. Often times, alcohol can be hard to avoid.
This can make this festive time of the year very difficult for people suffering with addiction.
Dr. Samantha Scott, a psychologist in Salisbury, says people tend to overinduldge during the holidays. We're told it's important to plan ahead and be aware of temptations.
Dr. Scott also tells 47ABC, it does not hurt to be open with family and friends if you are trying to control alcohol intake. That way, they can help keep you accountable.
"They may be used to you not drinking during the week and during normal times but holidays tend to trigger certain bad habits for people, so I think explaining it to them so they understand what you're going through and why it's a little bit harder can be helpful," explains Dr. Scott.
She says sometimes it may come down to avoiding certain parties all together.
