The Salisbury Fire Department reports that the District Courthouse in Salisbury was briefly evacuated this morning due to a small electrical fire.

Firefighters arrived around 11:50 AM and found that an electrical malfunction in an elevator motor caused smoke throughout the elevator area. The fire was already out when they arrived.

It was initially reported that there were people trapped in the elevator, but they were able to get out before firefighters had to rescue them.

The Salisbury Fire Department says they performed smoke removal in the elevator area and confirmed the building safe to resume normal operations.

The courthouse was evacuated for roughly half an hour before people were let back in.
