Diminutive SUV joins Ford’s North American lineup
Ford is using the Los Angeles Auto Show to show off it's newest SUV, but don't expect to see it on the streets anytime soon.
The EcoSport will be the smallest SUV in the Ford lineup when it goes on sale in early 2018.
The car has actually been sold in other international markets for a while, but this will mark the first time the tiny car is sold in North America.
Subcompact SUVs have been growing in popularity in the United States recently. The EcoSport will compete with other cars like the Chevrolet Trax, Jeep Renegade and Honda HR-V, which have all launched in recent years.
To help it compete, the EcoSport will be equipped with all sorts of technology, including Ford's updated SYNC 3 information and entertainment system, an 8-inch touch screen, available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and even a B&O 10-speaker audio system in the top-of-the-line model.
Powering the little car will be either a 1-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, or a more conventional 2-liter four-cylinder engine.
Inside there are up to 30 storage pockets, bins and hooks and second-row seats that fold flat. One of the unique features is the rear door which opens to the side instead of up.
As for customization, buyers will be able to choose from 10 different exterior colors, seven ambient lighting options and four trim levels.
More details about the new EcoSport will be released closer to its launch date.
