Details still scarce on Pocomoke homicide

Still many questions left unanswered Friday in Pocomoke City following an overnight fatal shooting. Police said 26-year-old James Allen was shot multiple times around 10 p.m. Thursday night. As of Friday, no suspect had been named.
DeWayne Cane lives right next to where the shooting happened. The wall of his house only feet away from where Allen was shot. He said he feels crime in the area is on the rise and that he no longer feels safe in Pocomoke.
“It’s feeling something like the purge,” Cane said.
Cane said the gun fire sounded like firecrackers going off.
Lt. Scott Cook with the Maryland State Police met with press Friday and said no one working the case has slept since Thursday night.
“We have got a lot of investigators out doing a lot of work, been out all night all day and we’ll continue to work until we get to a point where we can take a break,” Cook said.
Cook added as of now police are confident that the community is safe because they believe Allen was targeted.
Cane though is worried not just himself, but for his three year old son as well.
He says since a new chief has taken over in Pocomoke he doesn’t think officers have done a good job relating to the community.
The Pocomoke Police department couldn’t be reached to respond to that.
“I put it like this when Chief Sewell was here officers walked around,” Cane said.
Neighbors say that Allen had recently come home from jail and was making his way to a family members house to watch the end of the Thursday night football game when he was shot.
