DE representative hopes to make computer science available to high school students

One local representative hopes to make computer science available to Delaware high school students.

Representative Debra Hernan says under House Bill 15, public and charter high schools would be required to offer one computer science course by the 2020-21 school year.

She says if the bill passes,  the computer class would also be used toward a math credit with the exception of Algebra I and II or Geometry.

Representative Hernan tells 47 ABC computer knowledge is crucial in most jobs and early exposure is key for Delaware students.

"I think that  for kids going into college this would be a really  nice introduction. So we really need students to see if that would be a field that they would want to explore for a career," says Rep. Hernan.

Representative Hernan says the the bill be pre-filed on January 4th.
