Colonel Richardson can’t close the deal against short handed Seed

The Colonel Richardson boys basketball team got their Governor's Challenge tournament run off to a rough start Thursday morning when they fell to a short handed Seed team 68-59. The loss drops the Colonels to 0-1 in the tournament thus far, moving them to the losers side of the bracket where they will face St. Johns Catholic.

Seed was short handed from the start as four of their players missed the bus ride over from over the bridge, forcing them to suit up just 5 players. Despite being undermanned, they battled early on. The Colonels would be lead again by the strong play of their freshman Diante Dickerson who would pour in a team high 19. Seed though would be able to take a slim lead into halftime because of the career day by George Anderson who would finish with 36 points. The Colonels continued to push in the second half and would take the lead with 3 minutes to go after Darrion Speller would score in transition. Shortly after that, Eric Joseph would work himself in down low for another basket as they lead would grow to 4. But Anderson would take over down the stretch hitting a couple big threes to put his team back out in front. The Colonels would be forced to foul, but Seed would hit their free throws to ice the game.
