Choptank’s Habitat for Humanity hold holiday fundraiser event

Habitat Choptank’s Women Build House held a holiday event Sunday, to help raise funds to pay for a house currently under construction to help a local family in need.

Women Build House is an opportunity for local women to get fully involved in their community by building a home for a family in need. From the building of the home to raising the funds to get it done we’re told it’s all run by women, expect for the really heavy lifting and some wiring assisting. This is also a great way for them to learn the ins and out of construction.

In their “Deck the Walls” holiday open house, guests were invited to tour the home being built on 59 Pleasant Alley in Easton. Once finished the home will house a woman and her three young children. At the event people could purchase wreaths, cookies, among other holiday-themed items. And for a truly one of a kind gift people could buy or sponsor parts of the home. Volunteer Chair for Women Build House, Phyllis Ranbo tells 47 ABC they had a giving tree and people were able to take an ornament off the tree and purchase part of the house. People could purchase things such as the cabinet or sink to help put together the home for Ashley Villa and her children.

Organizers say, they hope to finish the home sometime in February or March. Once the home is done we’re told Ashley will be able to buy it from Habitat at a low rate, and she won’t have to worry about a mortgage.

If you missed Sunday’s event but still would like to get involved, organizers say there are many different ways to do so. To find out how you can help visit their website habitatchoptank.org or call 410-476-3204.
