BREAKING: Former Pocomoke PD Lieutenant found guilty on conspiracy charge

Former Pocomoke Police Lt. Lynell Green was found guilty Tuesday in Worcester County of conspiring with another officer to interfere with an automobile accident to help a friend.
Green accepting a probation before judgment or PBJ for the conspiracy charge meaning he accepts guilt for the crime, but the charge will not be entered in as a conviction and could be expunged from his record if he completes the terms of his probation.
Green was found not guilty for the additional charge of misconduct in office.
As part of his PBJ, Green will have to complete one year of unsupervised probation.
The judge explained his guilty finding, saying that he believed Green had conspired with former Pocomoke Police Chief Kelvin Sewell to help a fellow Mason brother avoid a hit and run charge. According to a narrative backed by both the state and the defense on Nov. 21, 2014 Sewell told a subordinate officer to report the car crash as a simple accident rather than a hit and run.
The state claimed on the night in question the Mason brother called Green after getting into the accident and that subsequently, Green called Sewell to alert him of the situation. The judge ruled that during the phone conversation that's when the conspiracy started.
Although the judge heard testimony that Green did not agree with the decision and left the scene when Sewell actually gave the order to not report the hit and run, he said because the conspiracy had been brought to fruition, at that point, that Green was guilty.
Sewell was found guilty earlier this month of misconduct in office, but not conspiracy. His attorneys have said they will seek to appeal the decision.
