Vandalism leaves a nasty sting at Salisbury’s Rep. hub

Saturday morning, sometime between 1 am and 7am, the Republican party center in downtown Salisbury was vandalized. This center opened up two months ago and volunteers say this isn’t the first time that this has happened.

“This is the second time I’ve come in to find something like this,” said volunteer Linda Luffman. “This is America we should be able to support without vandalism of whoever we choose to support.”

When 47 ABC arrived; the president of the club, volunteers that expected to work that day, and the building landlord were all standing outside the building, still in shock. Spray painted in blue across the windows and building structure were words like racist and homophobe.

“The way you respond to speech is with speech and not vandalism and destruction of property,” said the Republican club’s President, Shawn Jester. “This is going to take money out of people’s pockets. We’re not getting money from the Republican party or Donald trump. This is from people in the community that believe in the Republican party that are going to have to pay to clean this up.”

Jester says they plan to open, especially with the election just days away. And though this vandalism remains a clear image of the divide this political season, everyone seems to agree upon one thing – Get out and VOTE!
