Sussex County has added on to their Downtown Development District program

Sussex County has made some additions to its Downtown Development District program.

Just three days ago, County Council agreed to partner with the state of Delaware and the towns involved in the program.

The development initiative created a few years ago awarded Wilmington, Dover, and Seaford, by granting those cities money to revitalize their downtown areas, with rebates of up to 20% of construction costs.

Now they are adding Laurel, Georgetown, and Milford to the equation.

The goal of this program is to encourage new businesses to open in the downtown area.

Council president, Michael Vincent says whatever the states does, they are willing to do half of what they do up to $10,000 per project.

Vincent states, “We just think from the council perspective, it’s about trying to help grow jobs and revitalize downtowns and we want to participate in that and help them.”

Vincent says tells 47 ABC many businesses in Georgetown, Laurel, and Seaford are already in talks about upcoming downtown projects.
