Suspect in deadly fight convicted on manslaughter charge

Darren Beattie, 21, of Sparrows Point, Md., has been convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter, second-degree Assault, and Reckless Endangerment, following a May fight that left one man dead.
The verdict was handed down Tuesday after a two-day jury trial. Beattie was found not guilty of an Affray charge.
According to Ocean City Police, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on May 29 on the intersection of 136th and Coastal Highway. Apparently, Beattie became involved in a physical dispute with Ryan Shupert, 31, of Lutherville-Timonium.
Shupert was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to injuries on May 31.
