Sports 10pm

a star-studded event at the civic center today. yeah emily, first of all i was soo grateful to be inside because whats going on outside is something else. but yes your right..alot of players and coaches graced us this afternoon. at the wicomico youth and civic center for this year’s version of the 2016 governor’s challenge media day. over 20 boys and girls teams represented this afternoon right here in salisbury. the governor’s challenge kicks off on december 27th thru the 30th and this one’s looking to be bigger and better than ever. in addition to the numerous local teams from maryland, delaware, and virginia..the challenge also features teams from as far away as europe. i caught up with the guru behind the madness, mr. james simmons on what to look forward to this year. im excited..i hope everyone else is as excited as we are.. its 100 teams again this year, actually 101 so we went up by one this year but i think you’ll see some more growth from us in the coming years to be the biggest in the country. you know last year we saw usc and maryland and temple walk throw the doors, you know who know’s maybe we’ll see coach k come thru the doors.. on to some pro basketball your washington wizards sat 14th out of 15 teams in the east..really off to a bad start this year but they had the suns tonight, wiz not playing defense as usual. devin booker knocks down the three, later, eric bledsoe driving and hitting..these two combined for 59 points. but they hung around, mainly because of this guy..bradley beal to the hoop for 2-of his game high 42 points tonight. and beal kept them around, and of course john wall called on to end it and he does. wizards get just their fourth win of the season tonight with a 106-101 win. as for the sixers they were playing the sixers looking for back to back wins for the first time since 2014..never did it last year..miami dominating inside, the heat have a pretty good young big in hassan whiteside..he finishes the and-1. sixers have a good young big as well, joel embiid lining it up to knock down the three, then philly puts it away..robert covington’s gonna be wide open to knock down another three. 107 games since the 76ers have won back to back games, that streak is over with a 101-94 win. and switching gears we only had one signing today but it was a big one as laurel catcher perez nichols signed his national letter of intent to play at broward college in fort lauderdale florida. and for my fun fact of the day, broward is the college where former maryland governor paris glendening attended. now perez is not into politics but he plays secretary of defense pretty good behind the plate..an all conference selection in 2015 and he seemed very gratified with his choice. well im excited, nervous. a little nervous because im down there by myself but i think that all the hard work ive put in over the past three years since this college recruiting thing started, feels good that it actually paying off. that’s it for sports. we’ll wrap things up after the break keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc! catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com hairstyles brought to you by
