SERVPRO is creating personal emergency assistance bags for victims

After a house fire or car accident, one can be overwhelmed with the crisis and one company is hoping to provide the proper necessities to help those who have suffered considerable loss.

One little green bag  may not look like much, but they can mean a lot to those in times of need.

Inside it contains a variety of necessities for families, such as diapers, brochures, a coloring book, a first aid kit, and even a notepad to write down important information, which can be easily forgotten in the middle of the chaos.

SERVPRO is the company leading the effort to make these bags and their marketing representative, Kevin Knussman, says it is to provide proper necessities and personal care items to assist victims.

The personal emergency assistance bags has essentials designed for the first few hours after an emergency.

SERVPRO specializes in restoration services. They renovate homes which suffer disaster damage and fire damage; they also provide crime scene clean up services.

They often see first hand, the immediate needs of the victims involved. SERVPRO has put together these bags with their own money and donated them to area emergency first responders.

Knussman says there have been about 500 bags distributed to about 75 volunteer fire departments and about 50 police departments across the 8 counties of the Eastern Shore Maryland.

Each agency will determine how these bags are provided and under what circumstances.

A tag on each bag lists the contents inside and on the reverse side it has a letter, a note to the victim explaining a purpose of the bag. It also directs the victim to a crisis support hotline, if they need emotional assistance.
