Members of the Delaware State Police are investigating a single-car crash that sent two men to the hospital, one in serious condition.

Troopers say at around 5:20 p.m. Thursday, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was traveling west on Hearns Pond, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway before striking a utility pole and overturning.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he is currently with undetermined injuries, while the passenger had to be airlifted to Christiana Medical Center in serious condition.

As of about 8:30 p.m., Hearns Pond Road between Wesley Church Road and Conrail Road is closed, while investigators and repair crews work the scene.

State Police say wires became entangled in the vehicle when the crash occurred. According to Delaware Electric Cooperative’s Facebook page, about 2,000 members were without power following the crash. As of 7:25 p.m., that power was said to be mostly restored.
