SBY man arrested after alleged assault

Charles W. Sparwasser, 24, Salisbury, MD

On Sunday, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a reported domestic related disturbance at a home in Salisbury.

According to the report, around 4AM, a deputy went to a home on Steve Street and learned that Charles Sparwasser, 24, of Salisbury, and a woman had been involved in an argument that turned physical. Sparwasser was apparently upset because he thought that the woman had negligently burned him with cigarette ash. The deputy was then told that Sparwasser became extremely agitated and allegedly started to throw items around the house before trying to choke and punch the woman.

At one point, Sparwasser even was reported to have left the residence, stripped naked, and began yelling at the victim. The victim told officers that she went outside and found Sparwasser holding a knife, so she locked him out of the home until deputies arrived.

The deputy noticed that Sparwasser was extremely intoxicated, and so they placed him under arrest and took him to Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance where he was charged with assault first degree, assault second degree, reckless endangerment, and dangerous weapon the Commissioner detained Sparwasser in the Detention Center in lieu of $40,000 bond.
