Salisbury’s Winter Wonderland is quickly approaching

The lights are up for Salisbury’s Winter Wonderland.
But the signs of wear and tear are hard to ignore. Which is why Jen Shipe, who has taken the reigns on this holiday event, hopes she can rally the local community to bring back the shine and sparkle of days gone by.
Shipe tells she’d really like it to be like it was when she was a kid. She says she remembers all the lights being up in the park.
Jen Shipe is the head of Wyatt’s Warrior Foundation and took over the event in September in an effort to give back to the community, which has given so much their foundation.
The lights have been around for 25 years which were bought by the Wicomico Tourism Department. The lights went dark one year. Kim Hudson decided that she wanted to bring them back and for the last 10 years, she was working with volunteers to restore some of the lights and get back them in the park.
And now, as the new organizer, Shipe wants to make the Christmas lights event better than ever.
She states they are looking for sponsors to help them with money for the lights because there are lights that need to be restored. There are also lights that are 25 years old that have really served their time and it’s time for them to purchase new lights for the park.
The free event lights up the city park on Saturday, November 26th from 5-6 p.m. And it’s not just about the festive displays because there are children’s choirs, steppers from Wi-Middle, and dancers from Feet of Fire. Santa Claus is also coming and its an opportunity for parents to take a a free picture of their kids with Santa.
Shipe knows there is only about a week left to prepare but she’s hoping folks will see what she sees in Salisbury’s Winter Wonderland: the potential for improvement not just for this year but for years and generations to come.
Lights will be lit until after New Years.
