Rehoboth Beach man arrested for assault at birthday party in Salisbury

Daniel Jason Barnes, 39, Rehoboth Beach, DE

On Saturday, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported assault that happened at a home on Calhoun Avenue in Salisbury.

According to the report, around 9PM, the deputy met with a victim at PRMC who said that they were attending a birthday party with their boyfriend, Daniel Barnes, 39, of Rehoboth Beach, when Barnes allegedly assaulted the victim. The victim continued by telling the deputy that Barnes was intoxicated and got mad when the victim asked for his car keys because they did not think that Barnes should be driving. Barnes reportedly then hit the victim in the mouth, kicked them in the kidneys, and dragged the victim across the yard before banging their head into a retaining wall.

Officials note that the victim was taken to PRMC for treatment of lacerations and contusions. Barnes was placed under arrest by deputy, and taken to the Central  Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance where he was charged with assault second degree, the Commissioner detained Barnes in the Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
