Public hearing held on wastewater management in Rehoboth

The public shared their thoughts on the new wastewater management in Rehoboth Tuesday night at a public hearing.

Chris Bason, executive director of Delaware’s Center For The Inland Bays, says Rehoboth Beach has decided to remove their point source discharge of waste-water from Rehoboth Bay.

Bason says instead, they plan to put treated waste-water about a mile off into the ocean. Permits to do so have reportedly already been filed with DNREC; however, Tuesday night they heard from the public.

He says about two dozen citizens voiced their opinions and about two-thirds of them were against the discharge the wastewater to the ocean.

“Overall the benefit to the bays is going to be huge. It’s going to instantly reduce about a third of the pollution going into Rehoboth bay,” he explains.
