Provisional and absentee ballots counted after election

Although votes are cast on Election day, all the votes aren’t counted on Tuesday. In fact ballots will be still be counted, at least in Wicomico County, into next week.

According to Maryland state election officials as soon as the polls close the first thing they report are the early voting results and then at the end of the night they do the unofficial election day results.

“The Thursday after every election in Maryland is when we canvas the absentee ballots which have been mailed in and then the Wednesday of the following week we canvas the provisional ballots on both the election day and early voting days,” Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez said the staff at the election board will be working through the weekend to finish tallying the ballots.
