Palenchar Returns Home To Play Baseball At SU

After two years of playing DI baseball at Radford, Bennett grad Simon Palenchar is coming home. The hard hitting infielder has enrolled at Salisbury University and will be playing for the Sea Gulls this spring.
Palenchar’s career at Radford was off to a staggered start. As a freshman he appeared in 15 games, starting in 3 of them. During that time he hit .174 with an RBI. His sophomore season saw similar results, appearing in 16 games while hitting .160.
“I didn’t really feel it was my best fit. I really didn’t fir their play as much as I had hoped. They get a lot smaller, real quick guys and I’m more of a big power guy” Palenchar told 47ABC.
That power, should transition just fine to SU. The Sea Gulls are graduating a few key players, including Tyler Hrycak, Mike LaBriola, Kyle Goodwin and Jake Dmiterchik.
“The thing that did it for me was their winning tradition and having a great coaching staff to develop their guys and I really wanted a chance to complete for a national championship” Palenchar said. And he’ll have just that as SU. The Sea Gulls finished last season with a 26-12 record, making it to the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament.
SU has confirmed to 47ABC that Palenchar is enrolled at school and is currently working out with the team, expecting him to have a roster spot this spring. Palenchar joins the ranks of former Stephen Decatur standout Justin Meekins who left a DI scholarship to return home to play under head coach Brohawn.
“I just want to do everything I can to help the team and the program get a National Championship”
