Pack To Give Back created over 500 holiday meals

Thanksgiving is less than a week away, which means a lot of families will gather together and have a feast.
But not everyone has the privilege to have a Thanksgiving meal this holiday season.
The organizer of the event, Mark Thompson, decided that it was time to put a halt to hunger. Thompson says they invited people from the community to come in and help sort 520 holiday meals, which includes 12 items, plus a turkey that’s going to various families in the community.
The event called Pack To Give Back hosted at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church had over 100 volunteers stuff bags and boxes with traditional holiday fixings.
The Maryland Food Bank and Perdue partnered with the church to provide the purchased goods.
Maryland Food Bank told us there are 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children and seniors that are at risk that never know where their next meal is coming from. But they say, after today they know those in need are going to have a Thanksgiving meal and have a sense of normalcy that we sometimes take for granted.
After sorting and packing the bags, the volunteers set off to go door-to-door to hand deliver these meals.
As families opened doors, every one seemed extremely thankful.
It was more than just a meal being delivered, compassion and a sense of unity were two things brought to the table as well.
Thompson states, “When you look and see our volunteers, the families we come from different walks of life, different zip codes. But we all come together. We’re showing that we are united and we stick together and that Wicomico County, Salisbury is a wonderful place that we care about our community and we care about each other.”
