Ocean Pines playground closed down

On Monday, a playground in an Ocean Pines Park was dismantled after a contractor recommended that it should be closed due to its deteriorating conditions.

Officials from the Ocean Pines Association tell 47 ABC,  back in 2014 the association was presented with a report that recommended corrections be done to the Manklin Meadows Playground due to safety concerns.

The association tells 47 ABC this issue was not addressed back then because they had new members on their board that were not aware of this exact problem dating from 2014.  Officials say the contractor that performed the inspection report from 2014 was brought last week to provide a third bid for rebuilding the playground, that’s when the recommendation was made for the playground to be closed and public works fenced off the playground. We’re told no injuries have been reported on the playground and management is working on a new playground design that will be presented to the board for budget approval within the next few weeks.

The next board work sessions where plans for this playground could be discussed will be December 5th.
