Monday Memo – November 7, 2016

MONDAY MEMO
     TO:  ALL STAFF
FROM:  KATHLEEN
DATE: 7 NOVEMBER 2016

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) EFFECTIVE 1 DECEMBER AND YOU!

• This applies to you if you earn less than $47,476 per year.
• What it means is that, if you work more than 40 hours in any given week, you must be paid over time. Comp time will no longer exist as an option.
• It also means that your hours will have to be tracked, reported and retained by the Business Office.
• It remains the policy of the Station to avoid overtime so, except in the case of emergencies, overtime must be approved in advance by your supervisor

More information will follow in a later memo.

STATION SECURITY ELECTION NIGHT

• Because of how high emotions are running in the extremist camps of both presidential candidates this election year, I have met with Chief Duncan about additional Station and polling place security for Tuesday. The city police are working with the county sheriff’s department to ensure security and safety at all venues. The Chief asked that if anyone sees anything that doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate. Contact law enforcement. The good news is that, while there has been some vandalism, there have been no local threats, outside agitators or highly active groups in the market. This does NOT mean that we are taking the situation lightly. If you have any security concerns, review them with your Supervisor and/or come down and see me.

All that being said, this is not an occasion to take things for granted. Be sure you make time to vote!

NOVEMBER SWEEPS

• The November Ratings Period goes for three more weeks. As a broadcaster, you and any member of your household are not permitted to participate in any television survey conducted by Nielsen. If you receive a telephone call about participating, advise them as to why you cannot. If you receive paperwork, return it to Nielsen with an explanation and advise your Supervisor. In advance, thanks for your cooperation.

FLIP FLOPS, SNOW SHOVEL, SNOW BLOWER OR MOVE TO FLORIDA????

• Your questions will be answered by our Storm Tracker Team on Wednesday, in the 5:30 News Hour as Travis, Daniel and Jaisol share their Winter Forecast. You won’t want to miss it.

NEW FROM 47abc.com

• This Wednesday, we will launch “JOBS”, the specialty web page on www.47abc.com providing a wide range of employment opportunities for local job-seekers. Tell your friends who may be on the job hunt.

STATION FREEBIES!

• Congratulations to Drew Prouse, winner of our Crime Watch Daily Flashlight/Gadget in last week’s drawing. Because it was such a popular item, we decided to repeat the prize for this week. You can sign up for your chance to win on the Station bulletin board across from the time clock. Per usual procedure, the drawing will be Friday morning and the winner announced in the next Monday Memo.

REMINDERS

• We still have a few slots to fill to complete our Bell Ringing for Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. If you haven’t signed up and have a bit of time, we hope you’ll consider.
• The posting is up for the 47ABC Holiday Party at EVO. When you sign up, if you are bringing a guest, please be sure to include his/her name. Deadline for RSVP’s is noon on 28 November.

SPECIALS ON 47 ABC THIS WEEK INCLUDE

• Tomorrow night, starting in the News Hour, 47 ABC and the ABC network will provide wall to wall coverage of election night returns.
