Milton woman arrested and charged in pair of theft related incidents

On Tuesday, members of the Milford Police Department charged a woman following an investigation into a pair of incidents.

According to the report, the first incident happened on October 12 when Paula Y. Griffin, 36 of Milton, allegedly used a car without the owners consent and failed to return it to said owner.

Officials describe the second incident as happening on November 7, when Griffin apparently tried to cash a pair of checks at M&T Bank in Milford. M&T Bank staff became suspicious of the transaction, and notified officers. Investigators later found out that the checks were missing from a home in Milton relating to an incident that was being investigated by Milton Police.

On Tuesday, Griffin was taken into custody and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, 2 counts of forgery 2nd, theft by false pretense, attempted theft by false pretense, and receiving stolen property. She was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #2, where bail was set at $3000 unsecured.

Griffin is scheduled to appear at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas on December 19 for an arraignment on the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge and in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on December 2 for a Preliminary Hearing for the additional charges.
