Man arrested and charged in connection to Bear area bank robbery

Matthew Brennan, 25

Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives say they have arrested a New Castle man and charged him in connection to the robbery of a Bear area bank.

According to the report, the investigation started around 12:30PM on Monday after a man entered the M&T Bank on 10 Fox Hunt Drive in Bear.

The suspect allegedly approached a woman working as a teller and gave her a note demanding money. He also apparently implied that he was armed.

Officials say that the teller complied with the suspect’s demands, and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him.

The suspect then left the bank, and was reported to be seen leaving in a white Honda sedan.

There were no injuries reported, and no weapon was displayed in this incident.

Shortly after the suspect left, a trooper responded to the area and saw a car matching the description of the suspect’s on eastbound US Rt. 40 in the area of Buckley Boulevard.

Troopers report that they were able to stop the car, and take the suspect, identified as Matthew Brennan, 25, into custody without incident.

After searching the car, troopers say they found evidence linking Brennan to the bank robbery.

Brennan was taken to Troop 2, Glasgow, where he was charged with robbery first degree. He was arraigned at JP Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in default of $30,000 secured bond.
