Laurel couple facing child abuse charges
A couple from Laurel are facing a series of charges for assaulting a 3 year-old girl who lives with disabilities. Nanticoke Hospital notified Laurel police when the toddler arrived at the hospital with a broken leg.
Orlando Perez of Georgetown faces a first degree child abuse charge after investigators found that the 20 year-old reportedly assaulted child because she would not stop crying. It appears several hours passed after the assault before Perez got her medical assistance.
The girl’s mother, 19 year-old Reshelle Cannon of Laurel was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Conspiracy. Cannon was committed to SCI in default of a $14,000 cash bond and Perez was committed to SCI in default of an $58,000 cash bond.
