Indian River Soccer

a few of our local teams we have three different teams playing in state title games yeah its really exciting right now a real chance at some history being made by a few of our local teams just 1 more win to earn something that you will have for the rest of a lifetime and this is what you work for the indian river boys soccer team is headed back to the state title, to face off against tower hill for i-r though, reaching the title game was expected it’s what comes next, that matters take a look. nat pop its mid november, and just 2 division 2 soccer teams are left standing in delaware. and for the 4th time in the last 5 years… river, is one of them “at the begging of the season, we make that plan to win the division, the conference and the state championship. so far we have gotten two.” for a program that measures itself on championships.. the only thing bigger than their own expectations.. is the growing respect for the team “it means a lot. we represent our river jersey. everywhere we go, “oh you play for river?”. feels good.” saturday, i-r will have their chance at adding the next chapter to this already storied program… and a send a senior class off with 3 state titles “it’s exciting, but nerve racking at the same time. cause you know, it was a lot last year, we been working for it all year, so we really just want to win it.” i-r’s run the past few years has given this team something else that will give them a clear advantage in a championship game as well… experience river has 13 seniors this year, all of whom know exactly what its like to play in a game like this “we have a lot of players that have a lot of experience. big games, regionals, three straight state champions. there’s no pressure.” i-r started the year with 3 goals. 2 down, and 1 to go. “preseason starts august 15th and that’s the goal, for the rest of the year. get there, win it, so it’s really a big achievement.” taking it to the college level some high honors coming out today for the welsey football team with the release of the conference awards. 15 wolverines were recognized this year, including 9 making the 1st-team that list included jamar baynard, bryce shade, alex kemp, tory robinson, matt gono and austin eagle on offense… while samer manna and andre connally earned 1st-team on defense as for second team quarterback nick falkenberg gets the nod… along with isaiah ingram, ben robinson, dajahn lowery and blake roberts. s-u got their fair share of honors as well 1st-team honors this year go out to connor canonico, riley cannon, alex potocko and sean rowland and another 4 sea gulls were placed on the 2nd-team list that group included ryan kolb, daniel mchugh, dominic fabrizio and christian wilson that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com
