Delmar teen arrested on weapon and assault charges

Nasjea Holbrook, 17, Delmar

A teen was reportedly arrested on assault and weapons charges in Salisbury on Monday.

According to online court documents on Monday around 11AM, officers responded to Wicomico High School on Long Avenue in Salisbury at the request of an instructional assistant.

When the officer arrived, court documents show that a student told the officer that 17-year-old Nasjea Holbrook tried to cut or stab them with a pair of scissors. When the officer viewed video footage, he saw Holbrook and another student leaving a classroom around 10:40AM with scissors.

She allegedly had the scissors in a weapon ready manner, and the footage reportedly shows the students continuing down the hallway when the student with Holbrook tries to stop Holbrook and take the scissors from her. When the classmate nearly cuts herself, court documents show Holbrook kept hold of the scissors, and keeps walking towards the victim. Court documents show Holbrook then throws the scissors hard towards the victim, and the blade goes through the back of a hard plastic chair, and remains stuck there.

Court documents show that afterwards, the officer gets the scissors. The officer reportedly believed that the assault would have been dangerous, if the classmate had not intervened. The officer also said in the court documents that Holbrook told her principal that her plan was to cut the student’s throat. According to court documents, based on the student being fearful of being stabbed or cut, Holbrook was arrested on charges of first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, dangerous weapon on school property, and disturbing school operation.

Under Maryland law, a child who is 16 years or older who is charged with first degree assault, is automatically charged as an adult.
