Delmar Opens State With A Bang Against Lake

The Delmar field hockey team got their 2016 State Tournament run started with a bang Tuesday afternoon when they poured in four goals in the first 20 minutes on their way to earning a 5-1 win over Lake Forest. The Wildcats advance now to the State Quarterfinals where they will face the winner of Milford vs. Concord.
Delmar would get on the board less than a minutes into the match. They raced up the field, found Peyton Kemp open in front of the cage and she would fire it home. Then just minutes later, they would add another one after Kemp found Jordan Moore open in the circle and her backhand shot would find wood near post. Delmar continued to click on all cylinders offensively as just minutes later, Morgan Fletcher would come up with the ball on the left side and take a shot. Lake’s Brooke Tucker would come up with a great save, but the rebound would come right back out to Fletcher who would send it home. Kemp would add one more with 10 minutes to go in the first half as Delmar would take a 4-0 lead into the break. The Wildcats continued to control the ball possession in the second half, and fired several more shots on frame. Tucker though would find a bit of a rhythm herself, making the needed adjustments and slowed down Delmar’s momentum. Just under ten minutes into the second half though and the Wildcats would figure it out. A turnover by the Spartans deep in their own territory led to a ball getting pass to Kemp in the circle and she would finish off her hat trick. Lake continued to battle and eventually found the back of the cage off of a rocket of a shot from Mya Maddox. But that’s as close as they would get as Delmar closed out the match for the win.
