Bail eyed for man charged in drug conspiracy

(AP) – The attorney for a New Castle man charged with conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl that resulted in a death is asking a federal judge to allow him to be held under house arrest.

In a court filing, the attorney for 28-year-old Donte Jacobs says there has been a substantial change in Jacobs’ health since his incarceration.
 
Authorities allege that Jacobs conspired to distribute a controlled substance that resulted in the fentanyl-related death of a Pennsylvania woman in June.
 
If convicted, he faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison.
 
Federal prosecutors have said the indictment returned against Jacobs for drug distribution resulting in a person’s death is the first of its kind in Delaware.
