American Cancer Society hosts its annual Great American Smoke Out

November 17th is the Great American Smoke Out hosted by the American Cancer Society.

The Great American Smoke Out challenges people to stop smoking and educates those about the many resources they can use to help them quit.

Smokers across the nation use the date as the start of a long-term quit attempt or even a day to practice quitting.

The Wicomico County Health Department is also participating by providing “stop smoking kits”.

The kits include information packets on how to stop smoking along with some tips, such as how much money it costs to spend on cigarettes.

They also have a log sheet to keep track of how much they are smoking. Candy is also included to use as an alternative.

The Wicomico County Health Department also offers stop smoking classes every Thursday at noon in its E Main Street location. Participants are eligible to receive free quit smoking medications including nicotine replacement patches, nicotine lozenges, or Chantix. Confidential one-on-one counseling is  also available, including for pregnant women.
