102nd ‘Return Day’ held in Georgetown

a parade from sussex central middle through east pine street — followed by the official reading of the returns — at return day. 47abc’s lili zheng was there and joins us live in the studio tonight. lili — what was the energy like there today? emily — many officials we spoke with say that town spirit was exactly what was needed following the election. burying the hatchet — and starting delaware’s newly elected officials on a good foot. the campaign season is over. now’s the time to work for the good of the people of our state whether you’re democrats or republicans track 1 passionate words from delaware governor-elect john carney — two days after winning the biggest race of his career. carney — will succeed current governor jack markell — after spending six years in what he described as a very divided congress as a u-s representative for delaware. but — it’s through efforts like return day — which he says proved to be effective. we had a bipartisan breakfast group that met on a weekly basis and those republicans became good friends and we worked together on a lot of things, particularly things that affected our state. i think we need that and return day more than ever this year track 2 also on board with burying the hatchet and unifying as one — the very core and purpose of return day — is state senator colin bonini. the district 16 senator was defeated by carney in the race for governor — but says he looks forward to any bipartisan efforts — especially when it comes to the state budget. which — according to bonini — currently faces a deficit between 200 and 300 million dollars. i know that you don’t hear that stuff coming out of washington, dc but here in delaware…i mean, john faces some very difficult decisions and i think if i can help make some of those decisions, and quite frankly, if my fellow republicans give him the support to make those decisions, i think we’re going to do it track 3 as both sides adjust to an election victory — it really hadn’t set in until this morning when the executive security came to pick me up and my house, that was pretty different track 4 — and loss. if you’re going to lose the election…at least lose a few pounds, so the good news is i lost some weight over election <chuckles > sig now as we reported yesterday — several roads nearby the circle have been closed in preparation for today. we are told they should be reopen to traffic by 8 p-m tonight. emily — alright — thank you, lili. 47 a-b-c’s lili zheng reporting live in studio with us tonight, and you can find these stories and more online – just logon to 47-abc-dot-com. high pressure keeps the sky clear
