Worcester County still experiencing some flooding and road closures

Even though Delmarva was spared a lot of the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew this past weekend, it wasn’t completely smooth sailing for Worcester County with all the recent heavy rain.
“Major concerns right now are there’s still some flooding around and we’re waiting for the water to recede off some roads. Some of the roads took a pretty good hit as far as deterioration of the road,” explains Worcester County emergency services Director Fred Webster.
Webster says his men have been working overtime trying to clear roadways and fallen trees. But not all roads are clear, making it difficult for some locals to get around
“We come down this way a lot with 113 being closed now and Route 12. It’s a real inconvenience if you don’t know your way through the back ways, it can be a real job to get down here,” says local resident Baker.
Baker is referring to the left lane being closed on Route 113 near Betheden Church Road and the road closure on 113 near Langmaid Road. According to the Maryland State Highway Administration, those roads are closed due to high waters.
Even though the rain didn’t appear to cause major damage there are still precautions residents can take.
Webster tells 47 ABC, “First of all is the barricades were put there for a reason if the barricades are there don’t try and get out and move them or they’re only going to get in trouble by getting into deep deep water and the second thing is something we as emergency managers preach all the time with heavy rain and flood roads turn around don’t drown.”
Even though there still is damage control, Webster thinks conditions will clear up by the end of the week.
