Woodbridge Football Makes Statement With Shutout Over Lake

Woodbridge football had their coming out party Monday night when they traveled to the two time defending Henlopen South champs house, and topped Lake Forest 32-0. The win improves the Blue Raiders to 4-0, while the loss drops the Spartans to 0-4.

Woodbridge didn’t wait very long to get on the board as Antwain Holden would return the opening kickoff to the house for six. Terrique Riddick would run in the two point conversion as the lead would stretch to 8-0. The Spartans offense then struggled against the Blue Raiders pass defense their first two series. Their second series would end after Shymere Vessels would bust into the backfield for a tackle for loss, force a fumble, and recover it in the endzone for the score. The lead continued to grow off the defense as in the second quarter, Jamon Kane would come up with an interception on a out rout, and take it 31 yards the other way for the pick-6. Then just before half, Woodbridge would add one more score after Reddick would break loose for a 33 yard touchdown run. The Spartans were down but continued to fight as their defense actually was solid all night long. Elle Harden would be able to break a big run in the third quarter to move the ball into Blue Raiders territory. But the Blue Raiders defense was good all night long. With time running down, the Spartans would try one more run up the middle that was again blown up by Vessels, who would recover the fumble for yet another touchdown.

Woodbridge returns to action on Friday when they travel to St. John Paul Catholic, while Lake Forest travels to Delmar on Saturday.
