On Saturday, Delaware River and Bay Authority police report they arrested a woman inside the Cape May Ferry Terminal before she was to board the 2:30PM departure to Lewes, Delaware.

Officers say that Dawn Corcoran, 45, of Lower Township, New Jersey was found in possession of 250 baggies of heroin hidden in her purse.

According to the report, Pfc. David Santiago was screening foot passengers at the security checkpoint when the Corcoran approached.  As Officer Santiago opened her purse to search it for security reasons, Corcoran apparently grabbed at the bag with both of her hands and tried to run in to women’s restroom.

Officials say Corcoran reluctantly gave into the search, and the police officer found a tightly wrapped rectangular cube of black tape.

At first, Corcoran is reported to have told the officer that the package was a phone charger, but later admitted, “you got me, its drugs…it’s heroin.”

According to the report, the officer discovered a package containing 250 baggies of heroin, and Corcoran was taken to Troop 2 where she was detained detained.  Pfc. Santiago contacted the NJ State Police to inform them of the incident at the Ferry, and an additional arrest warrant was issued for Corcoran for violating the terms of her parole.

Corcoran was later taken to the Lower Township Police Department for arraignment before Lower Township Municipal Court Judge on the following charges:

  • Possession controlled deadly substance within 500 feet of a public park
  • Possession of CDS, heroin, a schedule I, II, III or IV substance
  • Possession of CDS, heroin, a schedule I substance with the intent to distribute

Cash bail was set at $50,000, and following arraignment, Corcoran was transported to the Cape May County Department of Corrections facility.
