UPDATE: UMES coordinator fills vacant seat on Salisbury City Council

The Salisbury City Council has appointed a new District 5 council member, replacing Laura Mitchell.
R. Hardy Rudasill, a Title IX coordinator with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (‘UMES’), was appointed unanimously by the council Monday night.
Rudasill was one of three candidates: Hsin Cheu, Raymond Sander, and himself.
Salisbury Mayor Jake Day says the city council interviewed them last Monday.
According to the city charter, it is the council’s responsibility to fill vacancies by appointment.
In an interview hours before Monday night’s vote, Mayor Day told 47ABC they’re looking for someone who is willing to do their homework on the fifth district.
“Especially around budget time, there’s a significant amount of work,” he says. “Also a little flexibility with their schedule and willing to talk to people in their neighborhood, listen to them, listen to their ideas and being a team player is critical.”
The council also selected Muir Boda as council vice president, a position Mitchell held.
Mitchell announced her decision to step down at a September council meeting.
