UPDATE: Route 24 back open following fire

47 ABC has confirmed Route 24 in the area of Long Neck Road has been reopened following a reported explosion.

Members of the Millsboro Fire Company confirm that the fire originated in a property near the Food Lion, and crews are on the scene as of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a post from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, firefighters are leading the investigation with assistance from the Lewes Fire Department, Millsboro, Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Company, and local Sussex Co. EMS.

At this point, 47 ABC is unable to confirm reports that an explosion was heard on the property, however photos from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page, indicate a truck and nearby structure were involved in the blaze.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area between around 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. while crews cleared the scene.
