Update: Ban on toy guns in Salisbury

Fatal police-involved shootings  because of toy and bb guns that look real prompt cities and towns across America to review their current laws. One of those cities considering some changes is Salisbury.

City council met tonight to continue the conversation on toy and replica gun regulations, starting with the distribution and sale of these items at Walmart. The council believes if the fake guns were distinguishable from the real ones, that might reduce the number of fatal police encounters.

Many toy guns have orange tips but those tips are easily painted over or removed and can be difficult to see at night. And bb and pellet replicas do not have an orange marking. Mayor Jake Day agrees that there is an issue with replica guns in this country but he’s not yet sure if a ban is the right way to go about it.

47 ABC will be following the story to await a decision on legislation.
