Think before you selfie on election day: what’s legal, what’s not?

In the age of social media, it appears secrecy in voting booths can be less sacred than it once was particularly for those who are ready to share their views and daily lives online.
“Ballot selfies”, as they’re often called, are when voters take pictures of themselves voting and their ballots; however, laws nationwide are mixed on whether this can be allowed including states on Delmarva.
In Delaware, the use of cellphones is prohibited inside polling locations.
Maryland also bans cellphones inside polling locations with the exception of media. Even then, members of the media are not allowed to photograph a ballot that shows how someone is voting; however, photos of mailed ballots are allowed.
In Virginia, Attorney General Mark Herring has issued a formal opinion saying ballot selfies are perfectly legal. There is no law prohibiting voters from taking pictures of themselves, fellow voters, or ballots.
