for sports. hayley, some news coming out of the university of delaware athletics that may not come as a huge suprise. ud athletics announced the firing of football headcoach dave brock on sunday. not shocking news, as the blue hens have dropped their last four games and are 2-4 on the season. brock coached u-d to a 19-22 reccord during his four seasons with the program. the teams has won just 12 of its last 32 games. brock’s contract ran though the 2017 season.the university immediately began a national search for brock’s replacement. athletic director christine rawak named co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach dennis dottin carter interim head coach. ud also announced on sunday that it dismissed volleyball coach bonnie kenny and associate head coach cindy gregory. both coaches were in their 15th seasons with the blue hens and were placed on administrative leave on october7th. the pair coached the blue hens to four ncaa tournament appearances from 2007-2011. the program got off to an 0-4 start in the caa this season. director of volleyball opperations has been named interim head coach. washington high school wont be bringing back four year head coach nick purnell this season. the school’s administration decided to move in a different direction, after purnell guided the jaguars to a 70-35 reccord during his tenure. purnell was not a full time employee of somerset county public schools. sources say that someone within the school system expressed interest in the position. another change for washington’s basketball program… standout tyree thornton transferred in from pocomoke. the junior earned 2-16 honorable mention all-conference honors last season. that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com here’s a look
