Smyrna house fire ruled accidental

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office reports that a house fire on Monday in Smyrna was accidental in nature.

According to the release, the fire was called in around noon on Monday in the 5600 block of Dupont Parkway.

The Citizens Hose Co of Smyrna responded, saw fire and smoke coming from the second floor of a single family home, and requested assistance.

The Clayton and Townsend Fire Companies and the Kent County EMS responded to help, and the blaze was controlled by about 1PM.  

Deputy State Fire Marshals ran the investigation and found out that the fire started in a second floor bedroom, having been caused by an electrical failure in an extension cord.
 
No injuries were reported in this incident and damages are listed to be estimated at $10,000.  The Red Cross of Delmarva is reported to be assisting the home’s occupants.
