Salisbury Zoo Gets into ‘non-spooky’ Halloween spirit

For the second Saturday in a row, the Salisbury Zoo held its big ‘Not So Scary’ Halloween Happenin’, an event where kids can play games and trick or treat around the zoo.
Over a thousand people showed up dressed to impress in their festive costumes. Kids from all ages got the opportunity walk around the zoo and play carnival games, participate in costume contests, and of course collect Halloween treats without the “scary” aspect that comes with traditional Halloween events.
Salisbury Zoo director, Ralph Ziland, tells 47 ABC its one of their biggest fundraisers, “We’re doing this to benefit our education programs and today’s activities allow us to do community outreach to put on things like story time, we have the stories for younger kids all during the summer, for classroom activities and programs, for our home schooling activities, so it benefits a lot of things that are important to the zoo and community.”
Piland also says they catered this ‘non-scary’ event to their main zoo-goers, families and young kids, that benefit from these education programs.
