Salisbury man arrested for DUI after leading police on chase

Michael F. Reynolds, 51, Salisbury

On Wednesday, around 3:40PM, a deputy assigned to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Community Action team arrested a man after several traffic violations.

According to the report, the deputy was driving northbound on North Salisbury Boulevard approaching Naylor Mill Rd when they noticed a Chevrolet pick-up truck tailgating them.

Officials were able to identify the driver of the truck as Michael Reynolds, 51, of Salisbury. The deputy says he noticed in his rear view mirror that Reynolds was throwing his hands up in the air as if he was annoyed that the deputy would not get out of his way.

Reynolds apparently did not recognize the deputy was driving an unmarked police vehicle, and passed the unmarked car when he had the opportunity. Officials say that the deputy saw a near collision by Reynolds with another car as Reynolds turned onto Naylor Mill Road, so the deputy tried to make a traffic stop.

According to the report, instead of stopping, Reynolds turned into the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and led the deputy through the parking lot in what appeared to be an attempt to avoid being caught.

The deputy says that the chase went back out onto N. Salisbury Blvd with Reynolds speeding and leaving the travel lane to pass traffic. Eventually additional deputies showed up to help, and Reynolds stopped in the area of Zion Rd where he apparently jumped out of his truck with his hands up.

The deputy noted an overwhelming smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from Reynolds who appeared unsteady on his feet. In searching the truck, the deputy found a large open bottle of vodka that was nearly empty, and he also found out that Reynolds’ privilege to drive had been both suspended and revoked by the State of Maryland.

The report states that Reynolds had a passenger with him who was on his way to report to the Detention Center on Naylor Mill Road, so it was assumed that was where Reynolds was giving the passenger a ride to.

The deputy placed Reynolds under arrest for DUI and his attempt to get away. During processing, the deputy found out that Reynolds had four previous convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Reynolds was taken to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner who detained Reynolds in the Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Reynolds was charged with the following:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Driving while impaired by alcohol
  • Attempt to flee and elude
  • Aggressive driving
  • Driving while revoked
  • Driving while suspended
  • Negligent driving
  • Reckless driving
