PRMC implementing a new electronic medical record system

PRMC has announced it will be upgrading its electronic medical record system, starting November 1st. It’s replacing the older system, which will be taken off the market in the next couple of years.

According to hospital officials, the record-keeping system at PRMC is about to be among the best globally, as the hospital will transition to a new electronic medical report or EMR, called “EPIC”.

Chief Medical Technology Officer Chris Snyder say EPIC is number one in the world and  it is the best EMR that’s out there for both hospitals, emergency departments and also for a clinical stage.

This new system means PRMC can share information within a single platform, meaning a more streamlined experience for patients.

Chief Technology Officer, Ray Adkins says clients will still have the ability to access patient records through the hospital portal called,  ‘MyPenCare’ but it will now be supported by a platform called MyChart, which will be much more accessible.

With the expansion and transition to the newer platform, it has taken a lot of work.

Snyder says, “There’s been a huge amount of training, we’ve trained over 500 providers and then all of the clinical staff to help support the doctors and clinical staff to apply the new tool to patient care.”

According to Adkins, all of this work will pay off for the patient. He says, “I think it provides us with, again that foundation will support improved care, improved access, more efficiency, and from a patient stand point, the ability for us to interact with them, engage with the in a much better way than we’ve been able to do before.”
