Parkside High School ‘blings pink’ in memory of teacher

Parkside High School added a little bit of pink to their Friday afternoon to honor a teacher who passed away from breast cancer.
Mrs. Dorothy Merritt spent 15 years teaching cosmetology at Parkside. She fought breast cancer for three years before passing away in May of 2015.
Bling Pink was dedicated to her on Friday. Just like the name implies, students and staff were invited to wear as much pink as possible in her memory.
Alison Cornish, a fellow staff member at Parkside, tells us Merritt loved the color pink and her memory is unforgettable.
“I also want to bring awareness to how important it is to do your annual checkups, both men and women, to do those annual checkups because you never know. Don’t miss one. It’s so important,” says Cornish. “She didn’t know until one day she went for a check up and there it was.”
Cornish says she hopes to make Bling Pink an annual event at Parkside and hopes to one day introduce a scholarship for students going through the cosmetology program.
