On the Job: Slaughter House Farm

and to some – means trying to scare the devil out of others. at slaughter house farm in laurel – that’s something they do every weekend – leading up to halloween. this week on the job 47 abc’s michelle mackonochie heads to laurel to do some scaring. “tonight we’re on the job at slaughterhouse farms in laurel where i’m going to be scaring people but in order to scare people i need to look the part so we’ve got to go into hair and makeup first – i’m super excited so lets go.” track 1 if you like to get scared – slaughterhouse farms is the place for you. from masked people chasing you with chainsaws through graveyards – to evil clowns climbing fences – and blood soaked butchers running up to you and getting in your face – you’re sure to get the scare of a lifetime. terry and kerri scott own the place – and they started it four years ago. but it’s not just to scare your socks off – it’s also for a good cause. a majority of their proceeds go right to operation we care – a non-profit organization that provides services for our local law enforcement as well as military troops overseas. today – they hired me to be a part of their scare team. but before scaring – terry took me through to explain all of their exhibits. first up – the doll room. “he’ll come up over the top – oh they actually climb – they’ll come all over you yeah they come all over you – they really jump all over you.” track 2 comforting. folks then come out to a corn field to walk through – it’s a quarter of a mile long! “that bus up there – you see the bus the school bus – yes – that’s actually in stalkers field – you go by there and the kids will come running up to you and say have you seen our bus driver – so what happens is the bus driver either cuts out with a gun or a chainsaw and comes right out after you.” “over here that way – there’s a car out over that way and that car has been a murder scene there’s a girl and she’s been shot all up the car has been shot all up and she says real low you need to get out of here.” “and then when she says that the guy starts a chainsaw runs over the top of the car and jumps down – oh my heart would stop i would be dead.” track 3 next – terry decided to show me the guns up close. of course – these shotguns are real – but they fire blanks. “so this is what they hear in the cornfield this is what they hear inside the building.” track 4 next terry had me try it. “pull it in your shoulder a little bit you got it i’m letting it go – you’re ready – just pull it? pull it when you’re ready – i’m so scared – welcome to slaughterhouse farms.” track 5 thanks terry – glad to be here – i think. next – terry showed me the butcher room. this is complete with a hanging table – which is used for victims to lie on. “the idea is one butcher harasses them – we usually have a little kid on here and this smokes like we’re cooking them alive – and then this one is a girl over here that’s yelling help me get her out – the kid usually jumps off of here and starts crawling towards the crowd and they pick him back up and throw him back on there – oh my gosh – then we come down through here – you ready – yeah – here we go.” track 6 while walking through this maze – someone chases you through it! all this – while sound effects of squealing pigs are playing above your head. 17:44:52″in here is a lady with a cauldron – this cauldron smokes – she comes up against here and bam – and gets a hold of -i’m sorry – gets a hold of people.”17:45:00 track 7 right next to the butcher room is the hanging bodies room. “this gets all smoke and we come bring them down through here -we actually have a couple 6 foot 6 guys that stay in here with white coats and are all whited out – oh my gosh that’s crazy – so with the smoke you see about this far in front of your face – wow.” “they come through here – this is a four by four silver maze.” “i’m glad i’m doing the scaring today.” track 8 next it was on to the jumping spiders exhibit – yes jumping spiders. but the shock factor doesn’t end there. “theres a guy sitting there with a chainsaw but when they open it they don’t see him.” 17:50:47″has anyone ever had a heart attack in here – we’ve had many, many people pee themselves.”17:50:50 track 9 terry says they have people who need oxygen! they have an emt and paramedic on site ok – now it’s my turn to scare! but first – it’s makeup time the first look we went for is the porcelain doll look. after the makeup was done – kerri added an apron – tied up half my hair – and it was show time. “there you go – i think she looks good don’t you think she looks good.” track 10 if you like scary dolls – sure. 18:16:04″welcome to the doll house – some new friends in the dollhouse – this is so fun.”18:16:25 track 11 next – it was time to run up to hair and makeup to change for the butcher room! kerri says you have to act fast because they have about 60 volunteers that need it done in a matter of 30 minutes. “oh my gosh this is crazy – i’ve never had my makeup done like this.” track 12 time to scare. “welcome to the butcher – come on we need another human – come on guys – come on – come on back.” track 13 next – we headed into another room – and this time – i was used as a prop. “nat sounds.” track 14 and after a lot of screaming – and scaring – our job was done. “how did i do today – well on an abcde basis – a being good – a being excellent – ok – were going to give you an a – you did a great job – thank you.” 18:32:03″you definitely can be on the team anytime – thank you – i don’t normally do my makeup like this so it was fun to have it done like this today – the hair was good – the hair was good thank you – so yeah excellent – excellent job on the butcher table we kind of shook you around which is good – usually when we shake people around they bang their heads but you stayed right on it that was a good deal.”18:32:23 track 15 michelle mackonochie 47 abc. next week on the job – she heads to east coast garden center to help them out with a few planting projects – so be sure to tune in for that. coming up we’ll have a final look at your weather – we’ll
